| Southbound kicks off 2009 |

DWP kicked 2009 off with a bang! For the third year in a row we had the honour of covering We spent two days every angle of the state's most popular music festival Southbound.
Highlights for Day 1 were catching The Hives and Donavon Frankenrieter for the first time, both were exceptional live. It was great to see The Drones again, they're one of my favourite bands and are brilliant live. But the highlight of the day was Birds of Tokyo. Not so much for their performance, which was as great as always. But watching the crowd's response, they've truly evolved into a bigstage bands. Despite boasting the bigger line up, DAY 2 didn't have any obivous highlights for me. It was great to see The Kooks, who I love! Ash Grunwald was as good as always. As were Faker and The Cat Empire. Headliners Franz Ferdinand were a heap better than when I saw them last. But I think the best part was seeing Sharon Jones shake her thang! She was great!
